I am both a massage therapist and a Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncturist working in Glasgow, Southside. I have a special interest in women's health as well as acute and chronic pain. I can combine pregnancy massage with acupuncture to achieve the ultimate relaxation and individual treatment for your priorities and pregnancy needs. I can also use acupressure points (acupuncture without the needles) during your pregnancy massage treatment. I hold a remedial and sports massage qualification and some of these techniques can be used as appropriate.
I offer pregnancy massage for any stage of pregnancy. I use massage and / or acupressure from 36 weeks pregnant to help you to prepare for labour. This involves acupressure / acupuncture points on mainly your legs. The majority of my clients find that having weekly treatments helps reduce the likelihood of being induced. This treatment supports cervix ripening (early stages of dilation). Treatment sessions to teach your partner how to massage you are available. During these sessions, I will teach your partner relevant acupressure for labour preparation and for labour. A booklet with all the points taught is also provided.
If you do go past your due date, we can use a combination of massage and acupuncture to support you starting labour. Again I can teach your partner which acupressure points to use at home to support your labour.
At your appointment I will discuss your priorities, any health issues and check that you are happy with the treatment I have planned. Treatments can be adjusted to suit you. I have a Belloost pregnancy pillow for you to lie on when massaging your back and shoulders. It has a centre section cut away so that your belly is not squashed. Pregnant clients have commented on how comfortable this pillow is. Of course if you would prefer to lie on your side then that is good too.
Treatments are also available post pregnancy. Ask me about the healing and relaxing mother roasting with moxibustion.
I am MSc (Distinction) educated, holding an Acupuncture Diploma from Middlesex University. My thesis on acupuncture and endometriosis was awarded the prize for best dissertation in my year.
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), The British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) and The Complementary Therapists Association (CThA). I am fully insured and my acupuncture clinic is licensed by Glasgow City Council.
